Emission norms for vehicles updated

During 2016, Transport Ministry in India has announced implementation of Bharat Stage norms VI (Based on European Standards) from April,01st,2020. In 13 major cities, Bharat Stage IV emission standards were put in place in April 2010. BS-IV norms are supposed to come into effect nationwide from April 2017. The diesel emission norms would lead to reduction of NoX from 0.25 g/km to 0.06 g/km. For particulate matter (PM), the reduction would be from 0.025 g/km to 0.005 g/km. Of the 20 most polluted cities in the world reported by World Health Organisation in 2015, 13 were in India with New Delhi topping the list.
